NISI ARUEUS: Using the NiSi Aureus as our foundation, we set out to create a lens set inspired by the character and emotion of vintage Nikon AI-S glass—not by replicating a single lens, but by distilling the qualities we love most from the legendary 35mm f/1.4, 50mm f/1.2, and 85mm f/1.4 into one cohesive cinema set.

The result is an image that feels naturally cinematic: gentle focus falloff, lower native contrast, warmer amber-toned flares, and a painterly rendering that softens the clinical perfection of modern optics. Rather than chasing technical perfection, these lenses embrace atmosphere, depth, and the subtle imperfections that make an image feel alive.

One of the defining characteristics of the set is its textural blooming bokeh found on the 50mm T1.3. We intentionally tuned this quality to become more pronounced as subjects move deeper into the frame, creating rich, layered backgrounds without distracting from the performance. During close-ups, the texture transforms and the image remains clean and focused on the actor, allowing emotion and storytelling to take center stage. As the depth of the scene increases, the lenses begin to reveal a more organic, dreamlike quality, with backgrounds that bloom and swirl just enough to add dimension without drawing attention to themselves.

At T1.4, the NiSi Aureus platform provides an incredibly versatile foundation. The lenses retain exceptional usability in demanding production environments while offering a distinctive and lively character rarely found in today’s modern cinema glass. Most focal lengths also provide coverage for the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA Open Gate format, making the set equally at home on both full-frame and large-format productions.
